LGBTTQA Affirming
Life has proven to be hard for those who's sexual orientation or sexual identity are different from the "norm". It takes courage and self appreciation to take a step forward to be one self in the midst of pressures to align with the mainstream regarding sexual orientation and identity "normalcy". It was not until recent years that the American Psychology Association removed sexual orientation diagnosis from the Diagnostic Statistic Manual, this being another prove of how the system is organized to deny a person's authentic self. As a result of these systemic oppressions, the LGBTTQA community faces unique realities that makes living fully embracing ones identity a challenge. Therapy can be a tool to create a space to share the challenge of being different and the ways in which it manifests in life. Therapy can be a space in which we can peel the layers of experiences that have made who you are today and also acknowledge the ways in which you have been able to survive and manage your emotional experience.
